Understanding Out-of-Bounds Planets During the Summer Solstice

Happy Summer Solstice and first day of summer from the Tropic of Cancer!!!!! Did you know there’s actual visitors centers for some of the latitude points on both the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn? And did you know that when the solstices occur, other planets may have the potential to be “out of bounds”?

So what is the Tropic of Cancer? The Tropic of Cancer marks the northernmost point of the Sun’s direct overhead path, heralding the summer solstice and the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The summer solstice is also the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, with the maximum hours of daylight and the shortest night. The Tropic of Cancer is an imaginary line of latitude situated at approximately 23.5 degrees north of the Equator. It marks the northernmost point where the Sun can appear directly overhead at noon.

But something to be aware of is when the latitude line gets to its highest point of 23.5 degrees, there is a possibility of “out of bounds” planets. Planets typically move along the ecliptic, but their orbits can sometimes take them above or below this path. When a planet's declination (its distance north or south of the celestial equator) exceeds 23.5 degrees (the maximum declination of the Sun), it's considered "out of bounds."

This is me standing on the Tropic of Cancer line in Cabo San Lucas Mexico, which was really cool to visit. A super small visitors center with no one present to greet you. Either way, there is pretty cool information as to what the Tropic of Cancer means, and its location.

But this is important because out-of-bound planets are often seen as having unusual or heightened energy in astrology. During the summer solstice, when the Sun is at 23.5 degrees north, an out-of-bound planet will be even further north or south, adding to its perceived impact. Meaning the planets are further north or south of the celestial equator than the Sun ever gets, providing a unconventional Influence. In astrology, out-of-bounds planets are thought to exhibit more intense, unconventional, or unpredictable energy. They may act in ways that are less typical or more extreme compared to when they are within bounds. These planets can bring about extraordinary creativity, unique perspectives, and a desire to break free from norms and traditions. It may also bring out more innovative out of the box thinking, rebelliousness, or act in an unorthodox approaches. In an original article from The Mountain Astrologer published in 2010 by Steven Forrest he states, “Of all the planets, the Moon is most dramatic in it effects when Out of Bounds, in my experience,” says Forrest.

Astrologically, on approximetly June 21st, the summer solstice marks the beginning of Cancer season, a time characterized by heightened emotional energy, nurturing, and growth. This period can be seen as symbolic representation of light, abundance, and the life-giving power of the Sun. It is a season of change. Happy Summer Solstice!
